John Alarcon composes and arranges the music as well as pens the lyrics for all Arc Light Sessions compositions and has been playing piano and keyboards for over 45 years. Born in Madrid Spain, he emigrated to Canada with his family at the age of 8. His musical history started at the age of 11 when he began taking piano lessons from his father and went through a classical repertoire while also diving into rock, pop and prog.
What followed was a period of musical inspiration sparked by the work of keyboardists such as Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Tony Banks, Jose Iturbi, Lyle Mays (Pat Metheny Group) and others. His main progressive rock influences are Genesis, ELP, PFM, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Yes, Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett. Main jazz influences are Pat Metheny and Dave Brubeck and classical influences include Bach, Chopin and Handel.
Never following a professional career in music, he nevertheless began to compose songs in his teens and eventually forming a series of groups and collaborative efforts with relatives and friends. In 2000, he released the album "Between Day and Night" and in 2002 "The Fairest of Moments" both of which received very positive press in the progressive music media. Both albums were released under the now defunct "Fossil Records" label.
Now continues a different chapter with The Arc Light Sessions and more self-released material.
